2013 Garden Party is coming up, we have two bands - The Nairobi Trio and The Dixieland Gipsy Band.
- Since their inception in 1989, Nairobi Trio have become New Zealand's favourite jazz band. They tour regularly throughout the world, appearing at major festivals in New Zealand, the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia. - The Dixieland Gipsy Band bring their highly polished act to New Zealand for the very first time! 16 to 19 June Mystery Creek Field Days Nick was in Hamilton for the June Field Days.
We finished harvest at the end of April and saw the volume at 7 tons of fine quality grapes for the 2010 vintage. Pohangina Red grapes looked particularly good and this is likely to mean the 2010 Totara Reserve will be exceptional, perhaps better than the premier 2008 vintage.
During May, we were busy with booked tastings, and attended a fundraising event on 22 May for Aokautere School. This was a gourmet evening with stalls selling relishes, olive oil, chocolate, and other tasty treats.
The warm reception and high demand for our 2008 Chardonnay/Pinot Gris Blend has led to an extremely limited inventory. This well-balanced wine can be cellared for another one to three years or is drinking beautifully now. Currently the price is $30, however, as of Tuesday, 1 June the price is $38 per bottle. This special varietal was also awarded a Bronze for Liquorland's Top 100 during early May.

Have you heard of Blanchett's Lounge Club events? Each month a different topic related to the world of interiors is presented at their showroom, 58 Napier Road in Palmerston North and you are served Pohangina Valley Estate wines to accompany nibbles from Hester Guy Catering. Pohangina Valley Estate held its first garden party on 20 March 2010. Despite some early apprehension with the weather a perfect day was had by all. Guests were entertained by Sue Pugmire and her band and enjoyed afternoon tea by Hester Guy Catering. The vineyard owners would like to thank the following sponsors of the event: UCG Ltd; Orcus Print and Farmlands Palmerston North. The event raised $1000 for planting of more totara trees at the local Regional Park, Totara Reserve.
The 2008 Chardonnay has recently been awarded a Bronze Medal at the Royal Easter Show. If you haven't tasted this graceful, full-bodied wine, stop by our Tasting Room & Cellar Door.
The vineyard's Red Barn Tasting Room & Cellar Door is open every weekend through April, except for Easter Sunday. Regular hours are on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 4:30pm. If you have visitors, stopping by to show them your local vineyard and tasting award-winning wines is a great way to spend some time. We have a spectacular new addition to the Tasting Room. On display you will find Blanchett's fine hand-made furniture. Distinctive, pure and elegant, this hand crafted furniture is heirloom quality and made solely in New Zealand from sustainably milled timber. We participated in two regional events on Waitangi Day. The Taranaki Wine and Food Festival and the Dannevirke A&P Centennial Show on Saturday, 6th Feb.
In early November the vineyard was awarded a Bronze Medal for its 2008 Pinot Gris. The Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition celebrated its inaugural year with an objective to provide wine lovers in the region with an easy and informative way to explore and enjoy the wonderful world of wines and spirits and to help the trade showcase their products in the world's most dynamic market.
Approximately 1300 wines from around the world, including Italy, South Africa, Portugal and Australia, were judged in the competition from 31 October to 3 November, with results announced on 4 November.
"We entered the competition to increase our profile in a growing market and also to just test our wines with some of the best in the world." said Bronwyn Dymock, who owns the vineyard with her husband Nick and sister Fiona. "To achieve a bronze in such a big competition and against so many entries is really thrilling."
Our wines are now available at The Gallery, one of Palmerston's fine restaurants. Enjoy a glass of our Chardonnay/Pinot Gris Blend with their signature scallops.
Fresh Central, Palmerston's new premier deli and specialty local grocer now stocks our wines. You'll have to stop in and check it out, 35 Grey Street (next to Speights Ale House).

Our 2008 vintage of white wines was released in April '09. We have a full-bodied Chardonnay available and our unique special blend of Chardonnay/Pinot Gris "dances on the palate." Have a look here.
