Pohangina Valley Estate, in addition to its award winning wines, produces olive oil. The oil is a blend of the Koronekei and Leuccino varieties.
The Estate's extra virgin oil is made only from olives that are grown and hand picked in their grove. Then the olives are sorted by hand to remove leaves and stalks. Following this the olives are then transported to Otaki for pressing, which is done on the same day the olives are delivered.
Extra virgin means it is of the highest grade; that the oil was pressed by mechanical means and has not undergone any other treatments during the extraction process. The flavour of the olive oil is grassy and fresh and is suitable for drizzling over salads, cooked fish and meat, and is great just for dipping with fresh bread.
The first harvest in 2008 produced 100 bottles which sold out quickly. As of June 09, the new stock is only 150 bottles so don't delay. You can buy here at the website or if you are local, Liquorland - Albert Street has a limited supply.
